  • Tips & Tricks: Splash cold water on your face or hold a cold pack to your wrists or neck to trigger the mammalian diving reflex, which slows heart rate. Avoid caffeine and other stimulants.
  • Cautions: OTC remedies are not a substitute for professional mental health care. Do not use diphenhydramine regularly for anxiety. Do not operate heavy machinery after taking sedating antihistamines.
  • Contra Indications: Do not use diphenhydramine if you have glaucoma, prostate issues, or are taking other sedating medications. Consult a doctor before using any OTC remedy for anxiety, especially if you are on other medications.

  • Do Not Use Activated Charcoal for Caustic or Petroleum Ingestion. Avoid ipecac syrup as it is no longer recommended. Do not administer anything without professional guidance.

Food Poisoning

  • Do Not Apply Heat in the First 48 Hours as it can increase swelling. Avoid massaging the injured area. Do not ignore increasing pain or swelling.
  • Do Not Use Ibuprofen if with Kidney Issues, Ulcers or on Blood Thinners. Avoid acetaminophen with liver disease. Do not use arnica on broken skin.

Open Wounds

  • Stop the Bleeding: Apply direct pressure with a clean cloth. Clean the Wound: Rinse with running water, use mild soap around it. Apply Antibiotic Ointment: Cover with a thin layer to prevent infection.
  • Neosporin: Apply a thin layer 1-3 times daily. Hydrogen Peroxide: Use only for initial cleaning of deep wounds. Ibuprofen: 400 mg every 6 hours for pain & inflammation.
  • Change the Dressing Daily or When Wet, Keep the Wound Moist with Ointment & Watch for Redness, Pus or Swelling.
  • Do Not Use Hydrogen Peroxide for Repeated Cleaning as it can damage tissue. Avoid blowing on the wound. Do not remove large embedded objects.
  • Do Not Use Neosporin if Allergic to Any of its Ingredients. Avoid ibuprofen with stomach ulcers. Do not use for deep puncture wounds without medical care.

Blood Loss

  • Do Not Apply a Tourniquet for Too Long Without Medical Supervision. Avoid using hemostatic gauze for minor cuts. Do not give aspirin as it thins blood.

Fractures
